This is a source-based launch guide, not a hands-on review. BeamNG’s announcement, v0.40 devblog, launch press release, and regional PlayStation listings establish the facts below. The buying advice weighs those features and limitations; it does not claim an independently tested PS5 session.
The 19 October 2026 launch shipped as v0.40, the same version day as the PC build. BeamNG’s press release confirms Career Mode on PS5, 12 open-world environments, FSR 3 on the base PS5, and PSSR on PS5 Pro. The v0.40 devblog adds 4-player split-screen with seven modes plus freeroam, 11 force-feedback wheels, and a First Drive tutorial.
Hotfixes followed immediately: v0.40.1 on 20 October, then v0.40.2 and v0.40.3 on 22 October. Those notes cover a PS5 UI crash, split-screen settings, Career saves, and wheel force-feedback. The US store showed a 4.83/5 owner rating on 24 October 2026. The vote count changes continuously and is separate from critic reviews.
The 24 September 2026 announcement says VR and mods will not be supported at launch. The press release adds that mod authoring tools are not currently planned for PlayStation. Parity with PC is “aimed for” where possible, with no date and no scope. Treat that as a direction, not a promise.
Online multiplayer has no first-party denial and no first-party date. The store lists offline play and 1–4 players. The confirmed launch mode is local split-screen; no online multiplayer has been announced. PC split-screen is 64 players. That number is PC only.
Buy it if you want soft-body crashes and couch split-screen without a PC. Wait if mods, VR, or online races are the reason you play BeamNG. CGMagazine scored the port 5/10 on 19 October 2026 and criticised menus and the career loop. A Driven review on 23 October praised the physics and the freedom, and criticised pop-in and the lack of mods.
Metacritic showed no Metascore on 24 October 2026 and stated that four critic reviews were needed. This is separate from the PlayStation owner rating.

Not at launch. BeamNG said VR and mods would not be supported at launch, and mod authoring tools are not currently planned for PlayStation.
Local split-screen supports up to 4 players on PS5. Online multiplayer has not been announced. PC split-screen supports 64 players.
