You can play BeamNG.drive with friends on one PS5. Local split-screen supports up to 4 players. Online multiplayer has not been announced, and there is no confirmed timeline. Crossplay is unconfirmed. PC split-screen is 64 players, and that figure is PC only.
The split-screen setup below follows the v0.40 devblog. No independent multi-controller session or online-lobby test is claimed. The store confirms local player numbers; the absence of an online listing is not a promise that online play will never be added.
What kind of multiplayer exists?
Read the three states separately. Mixing them is how “BeamNG has no multiplayer” rumours start. Split-screen is multiplayer. Online is a different feature, and it is the one that is missing.

How do I start split-screen?
From the main menu, add participants, then pick freeroam or a mode. In a level, open the pause menu and choose split-screen. The devblog lists Race, Drag Race, Pursuit, Derby, Drift, Rock Crawling, and Soccer, plus freeroam. Race can pull from 85 or more time-trial and AI-race layouts. Each player can set gearbox, clutch, and throttle assists, and a colour.
v0.40.2 on 22 October 2026 fixed pursuit police assignment, drag-race win checks, and crawl intro cameras in split-screen. v0.40.1 fixed a hang in split-screen settings.
